Our mission is to encourage, celebrate, and sustain God’s gift of creativity through music and fine arts.
The Music Ministry of Longview First United Methodist Church includes the Chancel Choir, the Kidz Connect Choir, our handbell group - Hurst Handbells, a Men’s Singing Quartet, and various other ensembles that perform frequently during the year. Instrumentalists regularly perform in worship services throughout the year, including brass quintets, string quartets, Woodwind ensembles, and an orchestra that performs a cantata with the Chancel Choir at Christmas and Easter. If you would like to find out more about the Music & Fine Arts program, please contact Paul Roberts
Chancel Choir
There are currently over forty singers in the choir – why not come and sing with us? The Chancel Choir sings music encompassing a wide variety of styles – from the great traditional choral classics to the inspired music of today’s contemporary composers – and we have great fellowship too! The Chancel Choir is frequently accompanied during the year by instrumental ensembles, including strings quartets and brass quintets. The choir performs a large-scale work with an orchestra at Christmas and a rousing “God and Country” service on the Sunday preceding July 4.
The Chancel Choir rehearses in the Choir Room every Wednesday evening from 6:40 – 8:00 PM.
Whatever kind of music you are into, the Chancel Choir has something to offer you! Make that leap of faith and join us as we praise God through music!
Hurst Handbells
The Hurst Handbells rehearse at the church on Monday mornings from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. They regularly perform during worship services and within the local community throughout the year, and for the residents of local Nursing Homes. The Hurst Handbells is a three-octave handbell group.
Kidz Connect Music Program
We have an exciting and NEW program for our children this year! In addition to singing a selection of contemporary and traditional songs, the children will learn to play a variety of instruments, including:
- Boomwhacker tubes (for children in Pre-K and Kindergarten)
- Handbells (for children in 1st through 3rd grade)
- Recorders (for children in 4th and 5th grade)
Our Kidz Connect Choir regularly performs at 10:45 AM Beacon Worship in the Sanctuary. All music activities listed above are a part of the Wednesday Night Live program for children, which begins at 6:00 PM in the Music Suite. A fun time is guaranteed for all children as we praise God through the gift of music!
