Introduction to Advent 2017 from Longview FUMC on Vimeo.
Join us for Advent as we prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate, again, the coming of Christ!
Every year during the Christmas season we spend hours getting ready. We get ready for holiday parties and special events. We take pictures and get ready to send out Christmas cards. We bake cookies, wrap presents, and decorate our homes. We spend so much time and energy getting ready for the celebration of Christmas…but do we remember to take time to get ourselves spiritually ready for Christmas? Advent is an intentional season of preparation and this year you are invited to join us at Longview First United Methodist Church as we spend time in worship and study about who God is and who God calls us to be.
Join us as we prepare.
You are wanted. You are loved. You are welcome.
Hanging of the Greens
We’ll start our Advent season with two special Hanging of the Greens services! At 8:30am we will celebrate in Faith Matters where some of our families will help us to hang the greens and sing in the season in the Faith Center. At 10:45am we will celebrate and worship in our Sanctuary service as our youth lead us in preparing for this special season!
Sundays in Advent
During the other Sundays in Advent we will have our four worship services at new times. We will have a Faith Matters (contemporary) and Sanctuary service (traditional) at 8:30am and 10:45am.
Our choir will present their annual Christmas cantata during both traditional Sanctuary services on Sunday, December 17.
As a new worship addition this year we will be having a Blue Christmas service on December 17th at 5:30 in the Nicholson Chapel. The Christmas season can be a difficult time for some as we remember our loved ones who are no longer here to celebrate with us. This service is a time to acknowledge our grief and also remind ourselves of the hope we have in Christ. It is a beautiful, intimate, and healing service.
Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve
On Christmas Eve morning, which is also the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will have one combined, traditional worship service at 10am in the Sanctuary. That evening we will have multiple opportunities, in different worship venues, for you and your loved ones to come and celebrate Christmas!
On New Year’s Eve morning, we will have one combined, contemporary worship service at 10am in the Faith Matters venue.
If you have questions about any of our Advent or Christmas events please feel free to call the church office anytime at 903-753-4463 or email our Associate Pastor Becca Newcomb at firstname.lastname@example.org.
