Sunday School Classes

Agape | Rm 24

This class is comprised of singles and couples that have children from primary school–college age. The topics of study alternated between books of the bible, marriage, parenting, and life application. Some of the most recent studies include: The book of John, Revival by Adam Hamilton, and Grace by Max Lucado. We meet on a regular basis for fellowship outside of the Sunday school hour with events that often include children and some that only include adults.

Alpha Omega | Rm 259

This class uses the “Adult Bible Study Series” and features both lecture and discussion.

Clyde Hall | Rm 172 (Parlor)

This class gathers in the comfort of the Church Parlor for a class that includes both lecture and discussion. Examples of recent studies completed include an independent study written by their teachers about Jesus’ twelve disciples, participation in a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements, and James W. Moore’s “Give Up Something Bad for Lent.”

Common Grounds | Rm 332 

One of the newest classes at FUMC Longview, this class varies in format with some teaching and lots of discussion and fellowship around tables. Recent studies include Ralph Wilson’s “Christmas Bible Study,” “When Christians Get it Wrong” by Adam Hamilton, and participation in a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements.

Faithlink | Rm 344

Using the “Faithlink” curriculum produced by Abingdon Press, this class meets for fellowship, conversation, and study that follow current events and issues related to faith.

F.L.I.G.H.T. | Rm 306

The full name of the class is Finding Light in God’s Heavenly Truth (FLIGHT). Designed with parents of young children in mind, this class focuses on studies related to parenting, marriage, and the practical application of scripture to life. Since conception, the class has participated in a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements and a very informal study exploring how parents can best share scripture with children outside of the Sunday morning experience at church.

Genesis | Rm 313

This classes often uses video-based studies that are supplemented with lecture. Examples of recent studies include “3:16” by Max Lucado, “The Explicit Gospel” by Matt Chandler, and “This Changes Everything” by Ben Stuart.

Grace Lowrey | Rm 258

This class is currently using Bible studies from several authors, such as Adam Hamilton and Judah Smith. We may occasionally use the “Adult Bible Study Series.” We are constantly looking for other studies to enrich on Biblical study lives. Several of our members share the teaching duties on a weekly rotating basis. There is significant discussion as well as a small amount of lecture each week. 

Great Expectations | Rm 304

This class uses the “Adult Bible Study Series,” and features both lecture and discussion.

Henry Foster | Rm 253

This class uses the “Adult Bible Study Series,” and features both lecture and discussion.

Journey | Rm 300

The format for this class includes a balance of lecture and discussion. Recent studies completed include “A Different Kind of Christmas” by Mike Slaughter, a look at “The Visual Bible,” and participation in a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements.

Kaleidoscope | Rm 240

Designed for persons with learning differences and special needs, this class has a huge heart for discovering how to live as disciples of Jesus. The class includes fellowship, teaching, and opportunities to engage in mission and service.

New Beginnings | Rm 302/303

This classes often uses video-based studies that are supplemented with lecture and discussion. Examples of recent studies include “A Different Kind of Christmas” by Mike Slaughter, participation in a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements, and “Final Words” by Adam Hamilton. Most of these folks are “Empty Nesters” whose children have moved out or gone on to college.

Newnham | Rm 243

This class uses the “Adult Bible Study Series,” features both lecture and discussion, and includes a time of singing hymns as part of gathering for Sunday School.

Prayer Warriors | Conference Room

Many of the studies completed in this class include video-based study and discussion. Recent studies completed in this class include “Gideon” by Priscilla Shirer, “Brave” by Angela Thomas, and “James: Mercy Triumphs” by Beth Moore. As implied by the class’ name, this class also focuses on living a life of prayer.

Thelma Morgan | Rm 173

This class uses the “Adult Bible Study Series,” and features both lecture and discussion.

Waddell | Rm 247

This class incorporates both lecture and discussion. Several times throughout the year this class uses the traditional “Adult Bible Study Series” curriculum; however, other recent studies have included a church-wide study of Jesus’ “I Am” statements, and Adam Hamilton’s “Christianity’s Family Tree.” This is a very caring class with lots of hospitality!
