Mission Programs

Throughout the year, First United Methodist Church of Longview provides opportunities to put faith into action through mission projects. As we begin this new year, we are currently planning those projects. As dates  and more information becomes available they will posted here. Take a peek below at some of the great opportunities coming up in 2015. If you are interested in any of these projects contact T.J. Gabelman or by phone at (903) 753-4463.

  • Food of the Month Club

Each month we collect a particular food item to be donated to local agencies that provide food to those who are in need. The items may be dropped off in the yellow wagon in the Welcome Center or the Church Office. This December we are collecting holiday foods, which may include: stuffing mix, canned corn, cranberry sauce, green beans, etc.

  • First Gifts

Our alternative giving market provides the opportunity to give gifts that make a difference. Church, community and global organizations offer specific ways to give gifts that can honor or be given in memory of a loved one.

  • Laundry Day

Several times a year our team does laundry free of charge in a neighborhood laundry mat. This ministry allows those living in poverty to have clean laundry and to put that money back into their budgets for other necessary goods.

  • Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network Inn Keeper

This agency serves to provide a plan for homeless families to rebuild their lives. Our church, along with others in the community, serve as a temporary home. Once every two months we house and feed families for one week. You can participate  by cooking, serving meals, hosting the family in the evening or by being the overnight host. It is a wonderful way to offer kindness and hope to a family that is struggling.

  • Love Does

This one day event is our community outreach day. We begin with breakfast and worship and then move out into the neighborhood to serve those around us. We offer a variety of ways to  serve so that all can participate; children, youth, and adults.

  • Meals on Wheels Driver

Once a month you can provide a meal and a kind word to someone in need. This only takes a few hours of your time and makes such a difference in the lives of those who are shut-in, ill, or just unable to prepare meals for themselves.

  • Mission Month

September is Mission Month at First United Methodist Church. Each Sunday, we invite agencies to share their work and stories with us as we learn more about what it means to help our neighbors.
